On Saturday (14 July) Paul Jepson took part in the Ultra White Collar boxing programme, at Bramall Lane, Sheffield, to raise money for Cancer Research UK. He boxed and won what the audience described as the bout of the evening.
Paul, who is an experienced runner, said: “I had been training for weeks. I have played rugby most of my life, I have run marathons and competed in triathlons and I felt I was fit, but the boxing training was gruelling. I have a new-found respect for boxers.
“I was touched by the support from colleagues at the centre and now I am looking forward to the aches stopping.”
Father of four Paul will now be applying to Care UK’s Working in the Community Fund for additional sponsorship.
Hospital director Steve Booker said: “We are all very proud of Paul’s enormous effort. Sadly, we have recently lost colleagues, relatives and friends to cancer and we were all delighted to be able to support his commitment to this fantastic charity.”
Paul was one of a group of 40 boxers who raised more than £10,000 on the night for Cancer Research.
