I'm Sam Drury, lead nurse for the Care UK London Integrated Urgent Care Services.
I began working for Care UK as a bank advanced nurse practitioner in 2015. At that time I was working as a nurse practitioner in secondary care and wanted to broaden my expertise. I loved the flexibility of the shifts at Care UK and I was able to choose shifts that fitted round my family commitments. I elected to undertake telephone triage shifts although there was also the option of home visiting and primary care clinics. I found the work both interesting and challenging. The GPs and ANPs in the call centre were all really supportive and helpful and I received good senior management support.
In May 2016, I was given the exciting opportunity of becoming the Interim Lead Nurse for the Urgent Care Centre and in January 2017 I took on the role of lead nurse for Integrated Urgent Care London covering both the urgent care centre and the out-of-hours. I have felt incredibly supported by Care UK and they have provided me with resources and opportunities to develop myself both professionally and personally. I was even able to make use of the counselling services available through the Employee Assistance Programme during a particularly difficult personal situation.
I love how Care UK has so many opportunities to offer ANPs – including out-of-hours, GP practices, prisons, 111, urgent care centres and I’m very thankful of the opportunities that Care UK have given me.
