HMP YOI Askham Grange is an open prison, which delivers a national service to women prisoners (residents) and young offenders and offers the opportunity for up to ten mothers to maintain full-time care of their child or children whilst in custody. It also facilitates a comprehensive resettlement regime for long and, increasingly, short-stay residents.

Care UK are the Health in Justice market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

What will you be doing?

As a Staff Nurse within Primary Care, you can expect to be involved in everything from clinical triage to the evaluation and development of patient care and standards. You’ll carry out – and potentially develop – nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when you need to. Across everything you do, you’ll maintain accurate records and provide the kind of helpful, empathetic support that will make every patient feel at ease.

What we need from you?

As an RGN 1 with valid NMC registration, you’ll bring a good knowledge of clinical governance and experience of carrying out clinical audits. We’ll want to see evidence of your continued professional development, and a real passion for taking your skills even further.

It goes without saying that you’ll have a solid understanding of health and safety, along with exemplary record keeping skills. Self-motivated and able to work autonomously, you’ll show plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations.

Beyond that, you should have a flexible approach and the ability to achieve changing priorities by managing your own time.

Additional Information

This is a full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week. The salary for this role is up to £30,600 per annum dependent on experience.
