I treat more than just symptoms

Are you collaborative, caring and compassionate?

Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work - if you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day, then this is the place to be.

As a healthcare provider, we recognise the fact that prisoners are a socially excluded group with complex healthcare needs that can often be associated with poor outcomes. We believe in putting the patient first, regardless of the environment or their history.

Care UK is the Health in Justice market leader - 2 years ago we were managing 12 prison healthcare services and in 2019 we're providing healthcare services in over 40 prisons across the country.

We can offer training and development in our friendly and supportive teams as well as full-time, part-time and bank opportunities and a range of other employee benefits.

Interested in clinical development?

We could give you the opportunity to develop in to a specialist role of your interest and benefit to the service i.e. ANP, BBV, sexual health, plastering, ILS/ALS (intermediate life support and advanced life support), health promotion, phlebotomy, vaccinations, suturing, wound care, RCGP, and long term condition courses.

In return for your hard work you will...

Receive an annual salary of up to £31,620 FTE depending on experience. You'll also get a number of benefits including a company contributory pension scheme, 25 days annual leave plus 8 public bank holidays (pro-rata) plus CPD and re-validation support.

Other benefits include cycle to work scheme plus training and clinical development opportunities.
Onsite benefits at HMP Long Lartin include access to an onsite gym, free parking and café/restaurant.

What do we need from you so you can do the job?

Nursing in a high security prison is never dull or predictable. On any given day the skills you use may be far and wide apart. From working in health promotion, A&E acute problems or alternatively you may be supporting people to manage their mental health or substance misuse. The role also requires the ability to remain calm in an emergency response situation, providing resuscitation and lifesaving intervention. The role will train you to an ILS standard. It’s this variety that keeps things fresh and stimulating. Every day may bring new challenges and new experiences, but at the same time, you’ll have all the support you need to deliver the best care possible. The role is an experience like no other, requiring diverse and mixed nursing skills and backgrounds.

One of our nurses at HMP Long Lartin says, “prison nursing is a fantastic experience for any nurse, no matter what stage of your career. The learning opportunities are unique, and the job can be very rewarding. There are undoubtedly challenges with in this role, however, with the correct support, prison nursing gives you the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of people otherwise cut off from society. It is a position I can see myself still enjoying the in distant future, and I would encourage anyone who has a genuine interest, to do the same.”
