Ophthalmology Nurse

Applicants need to be enthusiastic, motivated, and keen to work in a small team in a busy department. We are looking for an individual with excellent clinical and communication skills and who has been trained as an Ophthalmic Technician.

We provide a high quality; high volume cataract service for NHS funded patients alongside provision for minor eye surgery, YAG and local outpatient glaucoma clinics.

Our purpose is to ensure patients are treated in a courteous manner, with dignity, and offering them a high standard of patient care, whilst improving their vision.

Our hospital recently achieved an “outstanding” rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) the treatment centre being the first independent elective surgical centre to achieve this.

Responsible to Ophthalmology Manager

Key Responsibilities
As an ophthalmology technician you will be able to use your skills throughout the patient pathway. – From the pre-operative assessment to the follow up of the patient.
To perform visual field assessments on a wide variety of patients
To capture images of the retina using specialised equipment.
To measure visual acuity and accurately test intra ocular pressure
To measure the eye for cataract surgery (biometry)
To be responsible for your own case load, prioritising and accepting urgent referrals when necessary.
Assist with preoperative assessment of the patients prior to cataract surgery.
Maintain Accurate Medical records.

Skills and Experiences
To be successful in this role you will have:
Proven experience in an ophthalmic setting.
Proven training certificate
Basic life support skills

Please note that this is a full time role – working 37.5 hours per week
