Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

This role is available at our HMP Hewell site, located near to Redditch in Worcestershire, HMP Hewell is an Adult Category B, Remand prison with a diverse range of nursing needs with a capacity of 1074 male prisoners.

This brings a great opportunity to enhance the outcomes for one of our most vulnerable groups in society who can often face stigma in our communities. Substance Misuse affects people from all walks of life regardless of social background or status. Our work at HMP Hewell aims to provide the tools and knowledge to enter on a recovery journey leading to improved physical and mental health outcomes.

To enhance the service delivery at HMP Hewell, we are looking for a both RGN and RMN’s to join our Substance Misuse team. As a full training package is provided, no previous experience is required in substance misuse to apply for this development opportunity.

So what do we have to offer?

A 3-year developmental pathway with free training, allocated study days and on-site support from a designated medical practitioner under a Care UK learning agreement.

Year 1

6-month probationary period including local service induction process
Royal College of General Practitioner (Substance Misuse module) – Level 1
6-month local on-site Substance Misuse familiarisation training
Wellbeing Wheel - a holistic approach to care

Year 2

Royal College of General Practitioner (substance misuse module) – Level 2
Motivational Interview
Harm Minimisation training
Blood Bourne Virus training
Naloxone on release

Year 3

Non-Medical Prescribing Module
Care UK Regional Practical Experience

About you

It goes without saying that you’ll have a solid understanding of health and safety, along with exemplary record keeping skills. Self-motivated and able to work autonomously, you’ll show plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations.
Beyond that, you should have a flexible approach and the ability to achieve changing priorities by managing your own time.

Skills & Experience:
•Experience of working autonomously
•Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
•Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
•Competent IT skills
•Ability to demonstrate clinical expertise and knowledge of audit processes
•Ability to demonstrate critical reasoning skills and decision making
•Evidence of multi-professional / multi-agency working
•Ability to prioritise patient care
•Full understanding of equal opportunities, diversity and cultural differences

Qualifications

•1st level Registered Nurse with current registration with the UK Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC).
•Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

Further job information

This is a full time permanent role, working 37.5 hours per week over 7 days. Salary for this role is up to £32,000 (depending on experience). Post completion of development pathway, a salary review will be undertaken.
