Are you looking for a new challenge in an environment where no two days are the same?

Care UK is a high profile provider of healthcare services in prisons across England and Wales. Health in Justice is, by turn, challenging and highly rewarding and each prison is unique in operation, design and in the delivery of services. In developing robust and future-oriented mental health services, Care UK has secured funding for a permanent Mental Health Regional Lead position. This is an exciting new post based at HMP Portland, on the south coast of England.

The successful candidate will provide professional leadership for mental health services in the three Dorset prisons: HMP Portland, HMP The Verne and HMP Guys Marsh.

The prisons..

All are category C, training prisons with populations of 500+ men serving varying sentences. After that, each is very different, with different population needs, different offending groups and different age profiles. The design and operational management of each prison is also hugely varied as each seeks to maximise its resource in challenging environments.

The role...

The successful candidate will be an experienced mental health practitioner who will lead the implementation of the new Mental Health Specification across the three Dorset prisons. This is a new role which reflects Care UK’s continuing commitment to developing and sustaining high quality mental health services for service users in Health in Justice settings.

The Mental Health Regional Lead will work with the Head of Healthcare in each prison to provide professional leadership for the mental health teams in these locations. You will use your skills and experience as an integral part of the healthcare multi-disciplinary team, leading and advising on practice, policy and on the delivery of clinical care with regard to mental health. You will also need to be creative and innovative as well as be able to inspire and motivate people in often challenging circumstances.

As a successful applicant...

You will have a significant role to play in the development of each of the mental health teams, looking at expanding relevant training as well as designing and implementing robust systems of supervision whilst continuing to ensure that high quality and effective services are delivered to patients. You will have excellent clinical and communication skills which can be developed further by providing strategic and professional leadership to three busy mental health teams as well as working directly with a client group which is often very socially excluded, with healthcare needs that reflect their circumstances and where poor health outcomes are the norm.

The post holder will be expected to work clinically at HMP Portland as part of our drive for a safe, successful and effective service.

About Care UK..

Care UK is a significant provider of NHS commissioned services across the country. The organisation is committed to the provision of continuously improving services in Health in Justice settings with core values that reflect this aim:

• Everyone makes a difference
• Patients are at the heart of everything we do

Next steps...

Shortlisting will take place within the following week of the advert closing. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to visit HMP Portland for an opportunity to see a working Health in Justice environment.
