To ensure the continued quality of care at HMP Warren Hill we’re looking for a Mental Health Support worker to join our team.
HMP Warren Hill is a category C adult male training prison, holding adult men and situated in the county of Suffolk. Set in a closed security environment prisoners have access to education and skills, as well as an activity centre which runs a drug rehabilitation project and an education intervention group.
What will you be doing...
As a Mental Health Support worker, your responsibilities will vary. We seek a highly motivated, skilled and flexible individual. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a working knowledge of mental illness and associated factors.
You will assist the registered practitioner in the risk assessment and delivering immediate and, where appropriate, ongoing care to patients. You will also be expected to support people to access care and treatment, and occasionally working independently.
Under the supervision of a qualified nursing staff your duties will include, and not limited to:
- Supporting in the administration and checking of prescribed medication (controlled drugs).
- Promoting mental health programmes
- Support service users to achieve agreed care plans
- Liaising with external agencies to ensure continuity of care.
- Acting within Care UK and prison healthcare policies and protocols
- Contribute to order, discipline and safety requirements.
What will you need to do the job…
To be successful in this role, previous experience as a Support Worker in Mental Health or working within a Primary Care is necessary.
You’ll hold an NVQ 2/3 in Health and Social Care and must be willing to undertake training in substance misuse awareness, Mental Health Awareness, suicide prevention, self-harm and ACCT procedures, as well as Health Promotion and screening.
Salary and Benefits
- Up to £19,000 per annum FTE - dependent on experience.

This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week, 7 days a week on a rotational basis including weekends and Bank holidays.
The healthcare centre services include pharmacy, dental, podiatry, optician, sexual health, psychiatry and substance misuse. The service opening hours are Monday to Friday from 08:00 –19:30, weekends and bank holiday from 08:30 –18:00.
