Make a difference from day one!

Are you collaborative, caring and compassionate?

Do you want to lead and improve mental health services for a vulnerable population?

Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work - if you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day, then this is the place to be.

HMP Lewes is a local category B men’s prison for those on remand to local courts as well as those who have been sentenced and those awaiting release. With an operational capacity of 692, HMP Lewes is based in Lewes in East Sussex, within the South Downs National Park. It’s approximately 25 minutes from Brighton and Hove, 35 minutes of Eastbourne and Worthing by car.

HMP Ford is a category D resettlement prison, located in Ford, in West Sussex. With an operational capacity of 534, it looks after those with a minimum of 14 weeks left to serve, with 160 men going out to work daily. It’s located approximately 10 mins from Arundel, 15 minutes of Bognor Regis, 25 minutes from Chichester, 30 minutes of Worthing and 55 minutes from Brighton and Hove.

Care UK were recently awarded the healthcare contract at HMP Lewes and HMP Ford and will begin delivering services on 1st April 2020; we are the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/well being factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

To ensure the continued quality of care at HMP Lewes and HMP Ford, we’re looking for a Psychiatrist to support us and the existing teams in this new venture, to work across both sites.

In return for your hard work you will...

Receive an annual salary of up to £140,000 FTE per annum - depending on experience, working 24 hours per week, split across both sites. You'll also get a number of benefits including a company contributory pension scheme, 25 days annual leave plus 8 public bank holidays pro-rata, plus CPD and study leave. FTE equates to 40 hours per week.
Other benefits include cycle to work scheme plus training and clinical development opportunities.
Onsite benefits at HMP Lewes and HMP Ford include access to an onsite gym, free parking and subsidised café/restaurant.

What will you be doing?

As the registered Psychiatrist for HMP Lewes and HMP Ford, you’ll provide dynamic leadership of the mental health profession across these services. You will be pivotal in engaging the mental health workforce to support the delivery of the organisation’s objectives, ensuring the provision of an effective high quality mental health workforce within the available resources.

As the Psychiatrist, you’ll support the Regional manager in shaping the policies and strategies for developing and modernising mental health practice across the sites in order to ensure high quality, safe and appropriate healthcare services for our patients.
