What will you be doing?
HMP Exeter is a remand prison and new men arrive every day directly from court or police cells. We have a population of approximately 500 men with a turnover of approximately 60 per week. You will be seeing the new arrivals to the prison on their first night. You will be based in the HMP Exeter reception/first night centre with a nurse and officers. You will review new medical problems which are acute, prescribe and also review patients in drug or alcohol withdrawal. Face to face training will be given and also ongoing support will be available. The prescribing of substance misuse replacement drugs is protocol guided and so previous experience is not required although an interest in this area is desirable and this experience will be of great benefit to your outside prison practice.

What qualifications will you need?
MBChB or MBBS qualified, you’ll be registered with the GMC and on a PCT Medical Performers List. RCGP1 part 1 is desirable.
This GP position is a bank position paying £85 per hour.
You will be providing evening sessions which are 18:30-21:30 Monday-Friday and Saturday’s 13:00-17:00
