A day in the life of a prison pharmacy technician

I'm Jeanette Castledine, a Pharmacy Technician at HMP Doncaster.

I work alongside five other pharmacy technicians who all work on a different house block.

We ensure medication, prescriptions and the needs of the patients are met by liaising with the GPs and nurses to make sure prescriptions are issued in a timely manner and we refer patients to the right professionals for any problems that may arise.

As a pharmacy technician we have the responsibility to issue methadone to the patients, but on the substance misuse wing the patients are also seen about alcohol issues too.

Risk assessments for in-possession medication are carried out on a regular basis as are medication audits.

We work with other health professionals e.g. nurses, the mental health team and the substance misuse team as well as the prison staff and prison officers.

I find this job challenging but very rewarding and never boring!

We're hiring pharmacy technicians across a number of our prison healthcare sites. Check out the current jobs we have on offer here - http://www.careukhealthcare.com/healthcare-jobs/search/results?keywords=...
