A Suffolk-based couple have taken on regular 400 mile round trips in order to receive their joint surgery at a Care UK hospital, and they’re recommending it to their friends.
Mr Keith Lax and his wife Valerie were born, and worked most of their lives, in Barnsley and, while they retired to Aldeburgh, in Suffolk, to be near their daughter and her young family, they still have many friends in the town.
Keith, who owned the family builder merchants in Barnsley, explained: “When my shoulder became so painful it needed treatment, my friends in Barnsley recommended the local Care UK hospital as they had knees and hips replaced there and they were delighted at the results.
“I contacted my GP and he referred me to the centre, it was that simple. I had one assessment appointment and at the next appointment I had the operation. It all went very smoothly.”
While there, Mr Lax’s surgeon noticed that he was walking badly. “He told me to visit my GP as he suspected I needed a knee replacement. He was right and so I elected to have my treatment at the centre again. I was delighted he had picked up on the issue so quickly.”
Mr Lax’s friends were amazed at the speed and success of his surgery. “I went into surgery on the Monday morning and I was back home on Wednesday evening.”
Mr Lax returned to the centre for the third time to have his right knee replaced and was again impressed by the service. “The team are so professional, caring and courteous and the result of the surgeries are always positive.”
When Mrs Lax, who trained and practised as a nurse for many years was told she needed a new hip, she didn’t hesitate to choose the centre.
“I was a ward sister and I trained in the days when Matron ruled. The Care UK hospital is very clean and the nurses were wonderful and very efficient. I could not fault the experience from start to finish and that is worth the 400 mile round trip.”
The couple, who are now pain-free from joint problems, are now enjoying playing with their grandson and are about to enjoy a well-earned holiday in the sun.
