Nursing in prison is never dull or predictable. On any given day, you might find yourself working in A&E, drugs, mental health or health promotion. It’s this variety that keeps things fresh and stimulating. Every day will bring new challenges and new experiences. But at the same time, you’ll have all the support you need to deliver the best care possible.
At Care UK, our belief in putting the patient first, regardless of the environment or their history, combined with our insistence on quality healthcare has proved to be hugely successful.
As a Registered General Nurse, you'll work as part of a team of Primary Care Nurses within HMP Dovegate Integrated Healthcare Services, a Category B adult male prison.
It’s not just the environment that’s varied here, the role is too. You can expect to be involved in everything from clinical triage to the evaluation and development of patient care and standards. You’ll carry out – and potentially develop – nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when you need to.
Across everything you do, you’ll maintain accurate records and provide the kind of helpful, empathetic support that will make every patient feel at ease.
An RGN 1 with NMC registration, you’ll bring a good knowledge of clinical governance and experience of carrying out clinical audits.
We’ll want to see evidence of your continued professional development, and a real passion for taking your skills even further. It goes without saying that you’ll have a solid understanding of health and safety, along with exemplary record keeping skills.
Self-motivated and able to work autonomously, you’ll show plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations. We’re looking for an excellent communicator – someone who can guide and influence others to take the right course of action.
Beyond that, you should have a flexible approach and the ability to achieve changing priorities by managing your own time.
Skills & Experience
The sheer breadth of what we do makes this an exciting and dynamic environment in which to stretch your skills. The training we offer here is second-to-none and we’ll support your professional development both in terms of time, and financial support. These roles offer great front-line exposure, including triage work, and we’ll also give you a real say in how things are done. Your ideas and opinions will matter.
We’re the UK’s leading independent provider of health services in prisons, sexual assault referral centres and youth offender establishments.
Within our prison services we work with all types of offenders. These are a community like any other and we offer all of the health services any community needs in one place and with a single team. These range from reception health checks and regular GP services, to help with substance misuse, chronic or long-term conditions, podiatry, physiotherapy and optometry.
This is a full-time role, working 37.5 hours a week. The salary range for this role will be £28,500 - £29,500 per annum - dependent on experience.
Please note that this role is subject to Care UK Terms & Conditions and offers of employment are subject to satisfactory receipt of references, enhanced DBS check and prison vetting.
