About The Role

We are recruiting for caring and passionate individuals to join our team as Call Handlers in our busy 111 call centre in Dorking, working part time (minimum of 12 hours) across Monday - Friday every week. We can offer up to 30 hours a week.

As a 111 Call Handler, you will be answering inbound calls from members of the public in need of medical advice. Using both the Pathways script software as well as your own persuasive skills, you will gain information from the caller to assess their situation and guide them to the most appropriate service for them.

The patient may need to be given general advice, speak with a Clinical Advisor or be booked into an appointment with an available out-of-hours service. However, while we are a non-urgent service, some calls can be emotional, distressing or life-threatening, and there will be times when 999 services (such as an ambulance) may need to be dispatched.

This is a demanding but highly rewarding role, and we are looking for candidates who can not only empathise, but can also stay calm under pressure and help those in their time of need.

You will follow the Pathways license requirements and comply with all policies and regulations relating to clinical governance and patient confidentiality.

Pay Rates
During Training: £8.55 per hour
After Training: £9.51 per hour

Training

Full training is provided and paid to you and we have a Part Time course starting on Saturday 19th January 2019. This would be 3 evenings per week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 6 pm - 10 pm) plus all day Saturday and Sunday (9 am - 5 pm) lasting for 5 weeks. You would need to be able to attend every session of this training course in order to proceed.

You will need to complete the full Pathways and system training to equip you for the role and you will be supported by Supervisors and Clinical Advisors. Our next training courses usually run on a monthly basis and it is essential that you can commit to every session of the training.

At the beginning of the Pathways training you will be provided a workbook to review and complete. Initially this can be a little daunting but this pack will provide you with all the information that is going to be covered during the course.

The course itself will give you the skills required to become a 111 health advisor but we will require your commitment and dedication during the course as there will be assessments that you will be required to complete and pass.

NHS 111 is a 24/7 service operating 365 days a year which is non-emergency telephone service providing patients advice to the most appropriate urgent care service they require.
