Job Summary

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Sonographer to join our multidisciplinary teams at St Mary’s Treatment Centre in Portsmouth and Havant Diagnostic Centre. The role is predominately based at St Marys Treatment Centre; with the remainder of the role being at our Havant Treatment Centre and our Minor Injuries Unit at the Royal South Hants Hospital, Southampton.

Responsible To

Diagnostic Imaging Manager

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team providing a high standard of professional Sonography practice at all times. You will undertake a broad range of Sonography techniques and be expected to clinically justify ultrasound referrals using referral acceptance criteria

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Broad range of ultrasonography competencies
• Experience of autonomous practice and independent reporting
• The ability to cope in a fast-paced working environment whilst producing high quality images and succinct and accurate reporting of all examinations
• Competence to assess, scan, diagnose and report your own ultrasound caseload maintaining
accurate patient records at all times


• Degree in Radiology
• Diploma in medical ultrasound (DMU) or Post-graduate certificate or diploma (Pg Cert / Dip)
• HCPC Registration

Additional Information

At St Mary’s we offer surgery across the following areas: minor hand and foot, general surgery, eye surgery, urology colorectal surgery and endoscopy. We also provide a walk in or appointment based X-ray service, an echocardiogram service (heart scan) and an ultrasound service (abdomen, pelvis and testes scan).
