Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work - if you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day, then this is the place to be.

HMP Wayland is a Category C male training prison, located near the village of Griston in Norfolk. The site is built up of 13 residential units and has a full healthcare unit. HMP Wayland is 24 miles from the city of Norwich and 15 miles from Thetford.

Care UK were recently awarded the healthcare contract at HMP Wayland and will begin delivering services on 1st April 2019; we are the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

To ensure the continued quality of care at HMP Wayland, we’re looking for a Paramedic to support us and the existing team in this new venture.

We could give you the opportunity to develop in to a specialist role of your interest and benefit to the service i.e. ANP, BBV, sexual health, plastering, ILS/ALS (intermediate life support and advanced life support), health promotion, phlebotomy, vaccinations, suturing, wound care, RCGP, CBT, mental health and long term condition courses.

Other benefits include cycle to work scheme plus training and clinical development opportunities.
Onsite benefits at HMP Wayland include access to an onsite gym, free parking and subsidised café/restaurant.

What do we need from you so you can do the job?

With the ability to think on your feet and a flexible attitude, you’ll be a qualified paramedic with current HCPC registration and ALS/ATLS/PALS qualification for Paramedics. Capable of demonstrating initiative, you’ll have proven experience of post-registration experience in any of these following clinical areas: Accident & Emergency, Primary Care environments, Minor Injuries / Illness Units.

We’re looking for an innovative Paramedic who thrives on a challenge to provide high quality emergency care and minor injury treatment to patients with both primary care and acute care needs in a prison setting - performing procedures such as suturing, IV access, haemorrhage control, wound care and cardiac & CVA intervention.

You’ll be playing an active part in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patients care, working as part of a team of primary care nurses within HMP Bure delivering care to patients both within the healthcare centre and on the Wings/Houseblocks.
